In today’s day and age, there isn’t enough real real estate to go around. The real estate shortage has been going on for years now, but due to high mortgage rates and unaffordable housing prices, the shortage is starting to get better, with more homes being on the market for longer.

But with that being said, construction is never ending in America. Back in 2023, the United States used more raw materials (wood, concrete, etc) than ever before to create new housing projects for the American people. One of the things that comes up a lot in construction is the delay of deadlines. How many times have you seen a construction project in your neighborhood go up, and year after year think to yourself, “Wow, they’re still working on that? It’s been years already!” Many times, right? That’s why, in order for construction projects to move forward from deadline to deadline, they need a full understanding and reality of the status of a certain project, that’s where drone services come into play.

Drone services for construction progress is one of the most powerful things a construction company can do for the overall execution of the project. It’s going to make the job go so much faster, since the foreman is able to make better decisions, and the job can move from stage to stage, very quickly.

Process

The process is very simple. Normally in any construction project, there are 5 stages:

  • Initiation
  • Pre-Construction
  • Procurement
  • Construction
  • Post-Construction

Since we’re just talking about the final two, these two stages are the ones that take up the most time, since it’s when the job is actually taking place. Drone services can aid to understand where a job is in status, if there’s any issues, or if they’re good to move on to the next phase (hopefully before deadline). The faster that a construction company moves through deadlines, the better, so they can get more jobs from their client. What we recommend is that at least 3 drone videos are created during a construction phase. This is for:

  • Framing
  • Boarding
  • Finishing

The framing process is the process of putting together the actual dimensions of a property thus it’s accurate to the blueprints. Boarding is the process of putting the exterior of the property up, in regards to the doors, walls, ceilings, etc, closing off the entire property so that it matches the proper exterior/interior that it was meant to have. The finishing of the property is when the property picks out the interior materials (quartz, stainless steel, marble, etc) for certain aspects of the flooring, tile, etc. It’s important to get a good understanding of where you are in a certain project, so you’re able to move from phase to phase as quickly as possible.

Cost & Shotlist

Since we’re doing 3 shoots here, we need to break down what we’re doing in each shoot. Normally for a drone shoot for construction progress, we need at least 1-2 hours to capture the proper footage of the entire project, as well as another hour or so to capture the proper images. We recommend shooting both video and photo so you have multiple perspectives, so this way you have as many pieces of content as possible.

After taking this video and photographing, we’ll need roughly 3-4 days of post production to do editing for a project to make sure it has the proper cuts involved for the client. All is all, one stage of this shooting will be at least $1,000. This is to make sure we’re actually taking good footage of the project, and not footage that won’t show an accurate depiction of the area. If you get footage that doesn’t represent the reality of the status of the property, it’s a huge problem.

You could have the entire project come down in turmoil if you’re missing as little as one singular thing about a construction project, that’s why it’s so important to get a top down drone perspective of how the project is. So if you’re facturing in at least 3 shoots per an entire construction progress timeline, you’re looking at at least $3,000/project in total, which really isn’t a bad fee at all to make sure that your project status is looking good and you’re getting an accurate depiction.

Think about it like this, would you pay your doctor a few extra dollars to make sure they’re giving you an accurate depiction of your health? If you didn’t pay the extra few dollars, your doctor could say there’s something wrong with you, when there really isn’t. Or, they could say that you’re fine, when you’re really not – you and I both would pay the few extra dollars extra to make sure you’re getting an accurate picture of your health.

Value & Benefits

One of the best benefits of construction progress drone services is that you can actually save money if you take the extra time to get these additional services done. Let me explain here. Let’s say you have a huge problem on the rooftop of a building that you’re doing construction on, and you wouldn’t have caught that until you finished the project, or even worse, after there was a horrific accident. See, if you take drone footage and notice a problem, you’re immediately able to take action and save potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs to that roof if you’re able to take action immediately.

The nice thing about taking this footage is that after you complete the project and have the footage of the project while it was completed, you now have legal evidence that you can use in court on someone if God forbid someone ever tried to accuse you of anything in relation to creating a building that’s faulty.
