Get More Followers for Free

Introduction

Welcome to another Momentum 360 blog! Our goal is to inform you on everything 360 related in our incredible industry. If this is your first time with us, welcome aboard! If you’re coming back for a second read with us, welcome back! In this one, we’ll go over social media service pricing!

It’s 2024, and everyone wants social media followers. The only problem is… no one wants to put the work in, and most people just resort to buying them off of some sketchy site. This is a huge problem in our industry. You see, if you put in a strategy that works, and do it long enough, you will see results, without having to buy followers. You will be able to get more followers for free, and allow your brand to reach real people and have real conversations.

Remember, the more people you interact with that know about your stuff, the more you will sell, it’s just a numbers game. You could have the worst product in the world, but if enough people know about it, they’ll still buy from you. The good news is that we all know your product/service isn’t the worst in the world, and will only continue to get better, because you want the best for your clients.

So let’s not waste any other time, let’s get started on getting more followers for free!

Content Strategy

Before we tell you the strategy on how to get more followers for free, here is how you’re able to make better content for your brand. Start with this strategy before you start on the guide to get more followers:

  1. HOOK: Have a reason to consume it -› get them to notice your content.
  2. RETAIN: Pay attention long enough -› get them to consume your content.
  3. REWARD: Satisfy their reason for consuming -› get them to DEMAND your content.

Post Content: How Content Works

Pros 😀

  • Grows warm audience (who you can reach out to)
  • Makes all other advertising more effective.
  • Can get you the highest return per dollar.

Cons 🙁

  • Difficult to personalize.
  • Compete with everyone. Difficult to stand out.
  • If you’re good. People copy. Have to innovate.
  1. HOOK

Post Content: Hook

Topics:

1) Past: Life lessons

2) Recent Past: Calendar breakdown

3) Present: Real time capture (tweets/emails)

4) Trends: Apply your lens to something happening

5) Manufactured: Turn a crazy idea into reality

***My favorite way to pick topics: Do shit. Talk about what you did. Repeat.***

  1. RETAIN

STEPS

  • Example: “3 Steps to Creating a Great Hook”
  • Example: “How I Create a Great Headline in 7 Steps”
  • Example: “The Morning Routine That Boosts My Productivity, The 10 Steps That Got Me There!

LISTs

  • Lists are things, facts, tips, opinions, ideas, etc, presented one after the other. Good lists in free content also follow there. Think:
  • Top 10 Mistakes” or “5 Biggest Money Makers’ and so on. Giving It number of listed items in your headline, or in the first few seconds of your content tells people what to expect. And in my experience this retains more of the outfence’s aftertion for langer
  • Example: “7 Ways I invested $1,000 in my 20s”
  • Example: “28 Ways To Stay Poor”

STORIES

  • Go through your calendar, pick the most captivating events that happened the past week
  • People want to be entertained, not sold
  • You need to create a story that leads to a certain LESSON, if there’s no lesson, your audience will feel like they wasted their time

Here’s the difference between steps and lists. Steps are actions that must be done in a specific order to get a result. So steps are less flexible but have a more explicit reward. Lists can have just about anything on them in any order you want. So lists are more flexible but have a less explicit reward.

  1. REWARD

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR STUFF IS GOOD:

  • So no matter how good you think your content is, the audience decides.
  • Rewarding your audience means matching or exceeding their expectations when they decide to consume your content.
  • Here’s how you know if you succeeded: your audience grows. If it’s not growing, your stuff isn’t that good and you’ll get better.
  • Provide more value than anyone else. Make good promises. Clearly satisfy the hook you used to get attention.

Follower Guide

Finally, here is how you’re able to get more followers for free on social media. Follow this step-by-step guide below and you’ll be growing before you know it!

  1. Use this guide specifically for LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
    1. These 3 platforms are the absolute easiest way to get more followers and grow your brand
  2. LinkedIn
    1. Search your ideal customer persona and location, and make sure to “connect” with 150-200 people/week
    2. These will show up as “followers” on your profile, the more consistent you can be week to week, the more your following will grow, and that’s without posting a single piece of content!
    3. If you connect with 200 people a week, with there being 52 weeks in a year, that’s over 10,000 followers in a single year!
  3. Facebook
    1. Turn your personal profile into a business profile .
    2. Your “friends” count, will now show up as your “follower count”
    3. Use the same strategy as before for LinkedIn, for Facebook.
  4. Instagram
    1. Turn your personal profile into a business profile.
    2. This way, you’ll know be able to add features such as “CTAs, Website Links, Custom Links and Analytics to your profile”
    3. Connect with 150-200 people per week via DM, and follow them. They will not necessarily follow you back in the same way LinkedIn and Facebook work, so you most likely will need to work harder to make it work.

Overall, the most important thing is that you’re genuine when you’re connecting with your ideal persona, and that you NEVER sell directly to them, you ASK them if they KNOW anyone who MIGHT be interested in your services… and that question comes after a 5-10 minute conversation, not right away. If you’re able to show your ideal customer persona that you’re genuinely curious about what they do and who they are, they’ll be more inclined to connect you to people in THEIR network that might need your services.

If you go for the sale right off the bat, you’ll be perceived as too salesy, and won’t make any true connections, and will ultimately have wasted your time, which is a very limited thing in this world.

The strategy above is the same strategy we’ve personally used, as well as a lot of our clients to grow their professional brand to over 10,000 followers in very little time!

If you want some bonus tips though, we can help you with that too! Here are some below:

1. Throw a contest

Social media contests are a surefire way to increase your follower count. Often, the rules are straightforward. In order to enter, people must follow your brand and comment on your post by tagging one or more friends (to increase the visibility of your contest and encourage more followers). You can partner with social media influencers or partner brands to drive more contest entries and visibility.

Once your contest is over, some people will unfollow you. You can minimize the number of unfollows by ensuring you have a slate of premium content lined up that will encourage them to stick around.

2. Post exclusive content

People need a reason to follow brands on social media. Sometimes they feel a deep connection with the brand, and that’s enough. Sometimes the brand has a strong brand voice, and people get a kick out of their funny or snarky content. Duolingo’s TikTok account is a great example of this.

People also follow brands to receive exclusive content. Exclusive content can come in various forms, including flash sales where the promo code is posted exclusively to your social channels. You can also use social media to show a different side of your brand, where you can be more casual, unpolished, and “real.”

3. Partner with influencers your followers care about

Partnering with influencers lends credibility to your brand. If followers trust or admire an influencer, and that influencer endorses your brand, their followers are more likely to associate those positive feelings with your brand.

You can partner with influencers in whatever way makes sense. Some brands host influencer takeovers, where the influencer takes over the brand’s account for the day. You can also invite influencers to post tutorials using your product, exclusively to your channel. Finally, you can host an AMA, or #AskMeAnything, with an influencer popular with your target audience. If your brand hosts exclusive influencer content that can’t be found anywhere else, more people are likely to follow you.

Remember: The size of the influencer matters less than how well their audience aligns with yours. Micro Influencers can be more affordable, promise better engagement, and have a closer relationship with their followers.

4. Create shareable content

You can increase your reach, and get your content in front of more people, by posting content people will want to reshare within their own network — which may earn you more followers.

What content performs well on social media?

  • Hot takes
  • Industry trends or news
  • Memes
  • Quotes
  • Animals

Regularly create content like this, and your followers may repost it to their own channels.

5. Use the right hashtags

The most popular hashtags — the ones with the most posts — aren’t always the way to go. Unless it’s related to a specific event or holiday, when everyone is using the same hashtag, no one stands out.

If you use more niche hashtags, you can reduce your competition and increase your chances of your post being discovered by potential new followers.

Pro Tip: Using too many hashtags correlates with less engagement, and may come across as spammy. Limit your hashtags to 11 or less.

6. Be a thought leader

Is your founder or leadership team featured in the news? The more your brand is out there, the more people can get acquainted with you and decide to follow you on social media — especially if you say something interesting.

Seek out webinars, podcasts, and interview opportunities for your company leadership. At the close of these interviews, the interviewer will almost always ask where listeners or viewers can learn more. That’s when you can direct them to your social media channels!

7. Promote your social media

Finally, make sure you’re making it easy for your current audience and customers to find you on social media. Include links to your social media channels in your website footer. Embed relevant tweets in your blog posts. Promote your Instagram contest in an email newsletter.

Get (and keep) your social media followers

Once you start getting more social media followers, your work isn’t done. You also need to keep them around. So, pay attention to what strategies are working for you, and which aren’t.
